Historically, the organ is the most-ancient of polyphonic instruments, written documentation dating from at least the dawn of the Common Era. Hero of Alexandria is credited with the invention of a windwheel, the first instance of wind powering a machine in history. He invented a lot of other stuff, too (a vending machine, the force pump, a syringe-like device, etc.).

For composers, the organ provides not only a fully-self-contained orchestra, but also the inspiration for fanciful compositions that require no programme or explanation...music that exists solely for its own sake, musica gratia musica if you will.

The compositions on this page of my website are all short experiments in sound and form, suitable pieces for recital or for liturgical application and (mostly) within the grasp of moderately-skilled performers and smaller to average-sized instruments. Enjoy the discovery of some new music.
