Pieces of Eight
Years ago, I happened upon a tiny book of organ pieces that contained several dozen short studies in a variety of keys. Each was no more than 16 measures in length. The book itself was oddly-shaped, about the size of a standard cell phone and presented horizontally. I don’t know who composed and published the collection or where that book is today, but, just for fun, I decided to start a series of eight-measure mini-studies for organ. I’m not sure what, if any, practical use they are — perhaps as finger-substitution exercises. But whoever finds them may enjoy reading through. Who knows? Maybe you’ll discover a small treasure hiding here and there. Each can be performed on two manuals, with or without pedal.
